Carl Shaifer, WG’57
One of the original founders and chairs of WGES passed away in March. He was what our generation would call a “Renaissance man.” His devotion to Wharton and WGES was exceeded only by his pride in residing in Philadelphia, the city where the greatest democracy in the world was founded. Among other talents, Carl was a poet. He was also a champion wrestler at Princeton, where he received his undergraduate degree, and remained athletic throughout his life.
Above all, Carl was a warm, energetic friend to everyone he associated with — or simply met. The details of his life and community activities can be found below.
