Dean Erika James highlights The Wharton Fund as the School’s foundation that fuels its next chapter; Wharton Magazine catches up with the leaders of the Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM); and Lauren Nelson Hyppolite, managing director of research, centers, and academic initiatives at Wharton, discusses her background and her hopes for the future of the School’s research centers.
The Wharton Fund Fuels the School’s Enduring Value

Dean Erika James reminds alumni that the enduring value of a Wharton education doesn’t happen on its own. It happens because the community invests in the School.
She points to The Wharton Fund as the resource that sustains the rigorous foundation Wharton is known for — in finance, leadership, entrepreneurship, and more. Simultaneously, it drives Wharton’s future, from data-driven innovations to the development of responsible leaders through efforts like the Wharton Accountable AI Lab.
Dean James highlights how giving sends a powerful signal that a Wharton education fuels the leadership promise of the next generation.
Behind the Scenes of the Penn Wharton Budget Model

Founded a decade ago, the Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM) is a nonpartisan initiative whose research explores the economic impact of public policy. Led by Faculty Director Kent Smetters, the Boettner Professor at the Wharton School, this donor-supported initiative has helped countless policymakers ground their decisions in rigorously researched data — and has been featured in numerous news outlets, including Fox News and the New York Times.
This Wharton Magazine story examines the history and future of PWBM through the eyes of its leaders, including Director of Policy Analysis Alexander Arnon, Managing Director Susan Guthrie, and Director of Engineering and Data Junghoon Lee, as well as Smetters. Dive in at the link below.
