The Moelis Advance Access Program Empowers Students to Forge Their Own Path

Established with philanthropic support from Ken Moelis, W’80, WG’81, and Julie Taffet Moelis, W’81, the Moelis Advance Access Program offers students an alternative route to the Wharton MBA: deferring their admission for two to four years to pursue full-time work in the field of their choice. This Wharton Magazine story sheds light on how some Moelis Fellows have used that time, from pursuing project management roles in sustainable business to honing their grad-school goals.

Since 2000, SUMR has welcomed over 350 undergraduates from schools nationwide. 85% have since pursued careers in health care.

Founded in 2000 by the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and the Wharton School’s Health Care Management Department, the Summer Undergraduate Mentored Research Program (SUMR) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. SUMR, a donor-supported program, pairs promising young scholars from a range of backgrounds with accomplished Penn faculty for summer research projects, giving participants the tools they need to embrace careers that advance health equity. Join us as we reflect on a quarter century of success at SUMR.
