Wharton Impact Tour: Seoul 2023
A Celebration of the Wharton Community in Korea
On October 11, dozens of alumni joined Dean Erika James at the Lotte Hotel, in Seoul, to celebrate Wharton’s impact in Korea.
Sanghyun Samuel Kim, C’85, W’85, the president of the Wharton Club of Korea, introduced Dean James, and reflected that Wharton’s power has always been its people — and their ability to come together and learn from one another.
Before an audience of alumni and friends, Dean James connected the astonishing progress of Korea’s economy to Wharton’s emphasis on sharing the benefits of economic growth.
“The story of Korea’s rise,” said Dean James, “demonstrates the promise of business: to improve the world around us through innovation.”
Dean James also praised the resilience of local alumni, who recently relaunched in-person events, following several years of virtual programming due to the pandemic.
“Your effort to adapt to changing circumstances for the benefit of your membership,” the Dean said, “shows what is possible when alumni come together to advance their connection to Wharton.”
