Wharton in Focus: Manila 2024
Professor Karl Ulrich Shares His Findings on Innovation and Entrepreneurship
On October 28, an energetic group of Wharton alumni and friends came together in Manila to hear from Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) Bill Bole and Karl Ulrich, CIBC Endowed Professor of Entrepreneurship and e-Commerce.
CAO Bole kick-started the evening by welcoming attendees to the Makati Shangri-La and praising the Penn-Wharton Club of the Philippines for their recent efforts to cultivate strong bonds across other Ivy League institutions. Bole then began his remarks on the state of the School, during which he shared photos of a handful of impressive, newly renovated spaces on campus.
Professor Ulrich then graced the stage to lead a talk on fostering a culture of innovation, illustrating how doing so can be a competitive advantage for entrepreneurs. Ulrich noted that cultural traits can confer an advantage alongside sources of power like brand, scale economies, product performance, and network effects.
Following Professor Ulrich’s talk and a brief Q&A, CAO Bole returned to the stage, where he encouraged attendees to reflect on the positive impact that Wharton has had on their lives. He also urged them to support the School through philanthropy and by learning more about its groundbreaking initiatives.
