Lauder students race through Morocco, Wharton undergraduates explore careers with WIEP, and a gift from the Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund fuels the future of health care research.

Visiting Morocco With the Lauder Institute

This December, 50 students from the Lauder Institute traveled across Morocco for Culture Quest, a yearly Amazing Race-style competition.

Cross-cultural exploration is a key component of the Lauder Institute experience, and Culture Quest — an annual adventure through a region voted on by Lauder students — is always a highlight. This year, Culture Quest took place in Morocco, where six teams of Lauder students followed their own distinct itineraries through the country, exploring destinations like Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains, and the coastal city of Essaouira.

Like so many immersion trips, Culture Quest is made possible by generous donations to the Lauder Institute. Read more about this once-in-a-lifetime experience and explore photos at the link below.

Unpacking Business in Action With WIEP

On WIEP trips, which take place over school breaks, students visit prominent companies and meet Wharton alumni in their industry of interest.

The Wharton Industry Exploration Program (WIEP) offers students the opportunity to enroll in short-term, half-credit courses during school breaks. A highlight among undergraduate offerings, these donor-supported courses give participants the chance to explore some of the most pressing topics in business today, from navigating generative AI to innovation and entrepreneurship.

For this story, we spoke with a handful of students who participated in WIEP in recent years about what they learned from their experiences and how WIEP shaped their academic and career interests.

The Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund Fuels Research to Expand Health Care Access

Leonard and Sophie Davis’ legacy continues to inspire improvements in access to care.

A landmark $3.5 million gift — plus a $1 million matching challenge — from the Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund is fueling the future of health care research. The Davis Family Summer Undergraduate Mentored Research (SUMR) Program Endowment Fund will provide long-term support for the SUMR program, which works toward building a stronger, more equitable health care system for all.

Alan S. Davis, Leonard and Sophie’s son, serves as president of the fund. He said his goal is twofold.

“I hope this matching gift will inspire others to join in supporting this important work and help expand LDI’s impact,” Davis said.
