Wharton Impact Tour: Atlanta 2023

Dean James and Rekha Menon-Varma, WG’06, Discuss Wharton’s Future and the Wharton Way.

On September 28, over 100 alumni joined Dean James and Rekha Menon-Varma, WG’06, the Co-President of the Wharton Club of Atlanta, at the Thompson Atlanta – Buckhead, for a celebration of Atlanta’s Wharton alumni and their role in the city’s flourishing economy.

Touching on topics as varied as artificial intelligence and the recently established Coalition for Equity and Opportunity (CEO), Dean James underscored the important role that Wharton must play in helping business leaders expand opportunity while also addressing some of society’s greatest challenges.

In conversation with Menon-Varma, an expert on sustainability, Dean James described how the School’s new Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) majors will equip students to solve the business problems of today and tomorrow.

Dean James also reflected on her time as a resident of the city, where she twice served as an academic and held her first deanship, and where she still retains deep ties, both personally and professionally.

“This incredible city served as the stage for my early years as an academic,” said the Dean. “In many ways, this is a homecoming for me.”
